IPS is the world's leading news agency on development, environment and human rights, with more than 400 journalists in 125 countries. Seventy per cent of these writers are based in the South. The daily news service is distributed in more than 20 languages and is used by thousands of print media, broadcasting organisations and news sites in 138 countries on all continents.
South-South cooperation is a priority for IPS recognizing that communication and media must accompany the new global geography of power. In December 2008, IPS was awarded the UN Prize for Leadership in South-South Co-operation, for its role in promoting stronger ties among developing nations and media outlets.
