The International Training Centre (ITC) of the ILO will be holding a two week course on “Extension of social protection: towards a universal social protection floor”, in Turin, from 1 to 12 November 2010.
The course will present the social protection floor and its components. The different partners promoting and working on building national social protection floors will present their contribution to the floor, and examples of social protection floor components around the world and their impact on households, communities and national economies will be shared. The course will also inform on the process to build a national social protection floor, as well as information, statistical and technical tools to support that process.
The course is designed for policy planners from governmental structures such as ministries of labour, financing and planning, health, social protection and social affairs who are instrumental in developing social protection policies in their countries. As the workshop will be promoting the universal social protection floor, planners and professionals working in social protection programmes, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and representatives of workers and employer organizations are also invited to participate. The social protection floor being a priority of the UN Chief Executives Board, so practitioners and consultants of the UN agencies of the coalition responsible for the social protection floor initiative will also benefit from the experiences shared during the training.
The course is offered in French and in English with simultaneous translation, in order to offer a broad perspective of experiences worldwide.

Please note that the 3,250 Euros price of the workshop includes tuition, room and board, transfers from the airport in Turin, insurance and other ITC benefits, but it does not include travel from the participant’s home country to Turin. Details on the procedures for nominating candidates for the workshop are included in the course description. The nomination letter should indicate how the participation of the candidate will be financed. Please note that for visa reasons, the latest registration date is September 25 and that the number of participants is limited.
